Blandfordia grandiflora, the Christmas Bells is a slow growing, clumping, grass like perennial herb that grows in the damp, sandy coastal soils between Sydney in NSW and Fraser Island in Queensland. It has narrow, rigid, strap-like leaves about 70cm long and produces long thin stems about 80-120cm high that carry up to 10 pendulous, bell-shaped bright red flowers with golden yellow tips. Long narrow capsules develop from the flowers containing small, brown velvety seeds.
